This is non the problem just I do take more than data. What my PC is doing is going to the lock screen subsequently 60 seconds idle and the monitor automatically powers down after v minutes. The monitor is setup to do this but would not if the figurer did not keep going to the lock screen. 60 seconds is ridicules and I need to change this. As I mentioned the ability setup is not the problem unless the settings are not working every bit intended. Both the CPU and brandish are already set to never. This has to be another setting.

I plant the issue. There appears to be a issues in windows 8.1 every bit this started after I upgraded. I had set a screen saver and set information technology to i minute to try a new screen saver I had downloaded. I then changed the screen save to none only did not change the 1 minute so the computer was going to the welcome page then requiring log in to go past it. I had uncheck the require log in to resume box to correct the consequence.

PS. Uncheck is a word at present. Please right spell check. By my authority.

Thank you for this mail.  I kept going to my power settings thinking I was losing my mind when it was gear up to twenty, notwithstanding my calculator would time out and require a password after just i minute.  I didn't even think to go to the screen saver screen (fix to 1 infinitesimal--by default and blank screen.)  Information technology'd be squeamish if ALL the settings that could put your computer into a sleep like land were in one place, but then over again, if THAT'S my biggest problem of the day, I'll have a pretty expert solar day!

Much much much improve.

This question is pretty old, but I just ran into the issue on ane of my laptops. Normally I would simply figure information technology out, but the existent fashion to fix this is simply nuts. Information technology'south like they are adamant to "save the planet". Despite changing the "Turn off the display" to never for both the plugged in and battery, equally well every bit "Put the computer to sleep"; every six minutes ... the reckoner would close off to where I'd have to reenter my password.

It'south because the difficult drive is set up to "turn off". Also, there are advanced sleep settings that makes your PC become into "hide mode".

So I'll make this quick instead of going over the drama and stupidity of these settings when in that location're already what's supposed to be simplified settings addressing power consumption.

So under Power & Sleep, once you personally set it to your preference, it kicks the power settings into "High Operation" instead of 'HP recommended" or whatever the build is, be it tablet, desktop or laptop..

Under "Ability & Slumber" gear up information technology to your preference, then immediately click "Additional power settings".

This brings up "Cull or customize a power plan". Since you changed the settings previously from it'south default, y'all are under "High operation" aka "custom settings". On the right of that option, click "Change plan settings".

You lot're now on "High operation settings programme". Ensure your battery and plugged in settings are correct or modify them to what you lot prefer and then click 'Save changes". Then yous are....

Not finished. Huh? They sure didn't proceed information technology simple.

Then once done saving your changes, click "Change advanced power settings".

This brings up a long listing of "Ability options", in advanced settings. Yous will see it'southward the detailed settings for high performance. Now if y'all got hither without knowing exactly what to do prior, you wouldn't check "Hard drive".

So click on "Hard drive". Click on "Turn off hard disk later on"(It's really the only option). Once again yous will see "On battery" and "Plugged in". It was automatically gear up to six minutes. So you can set it to how many minutes before the difficult drive turns off or put in 0 minutes and that sets information technology to never.

Now if you lot don't want your device to turn off in 20 minutes, you got ane last thing to do. I know.

So you should still exist in power options. Scroll downwards to "Sleep". At present you will see four different settings. Since you fix it to never(or whatsoever custom time) on the simple, directly and not very honest "Power & sleep" window, the options of "Slumber after" and "Permit hybrid aleep" should be set to never or whatever custom minutes you set. If not, set up them and apply. You will then see that the "Hibernate afterward" is set past default to twenty minutes. Yes! I know had you non checked, your device would at present shut off or "Hibernate" after xx minutes! How dark-green!

And then fix "Hide after" to never by inputting 0 or whatever minutes you want; then apply.

Now finally, your device volition stay on every bit long you want it to, which is non very greenish.

Hope this helps guys. It's quite a chip but it worked for me.
